Four Seasons Langkawi

Rooms: 91

Type: Resort Hotel

KHI's acquisition of the Four Seasons Resort Langkawi, one of the top Four Seasons resorts worldwide, in April 2007 is one of most significant recent additions to its growing Asian portfolio. The hotel, which opened on 1 March 2005, benefits from an under-developed beach location, no current direct competition and limited supply of premium branded luxury villas on the island. This promising asset holds significant development potential both in room expansion and ancillary real estate.

Langkawi is a holiday island located off the Malaysian coast, close to the border with Thailand that is very close to large reserves of natural mangroves. Its diverse wildlife and the beauty of the surrounding areas are considered by many to be among the most underrated and unexplored tourist areas in Asia.

To address this, the government of Malaysia has made the tourist development of the island one of its top strategic growth priorities. Travel and tourism in Malaysia is expected to grow by 6.6% per annum between 2008 and 2017 and the government has already pledged more than US$500 million to enhance Malaysia's global appeal as a major tourist destination.

KHI is planning a capital expenditure programme to add luxury residential villas for sale.
